About Claire

Claire Cottone – MSW, BA/LLB, AMusA, Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AASW)

I’m a qualified counsellor and EMDR practitioner, specialising in the healing of traumas and resolution of the emotional, psychological, and physical imbalances that trauma can cause. I work to create a safe therapeutic relationship where you can be yourself, tell your story, and be heard, believed and supported.

I’m an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers. This accreditation required 3360 hours of post-graduate supervised clinical counselling practice, extensive case studies demonstrating my applied knowledge of evidence-based psychological strategies, and a written examination, and enables me to offer psychological therapies under Medicare mental health care plans.

I hold a Master of Social Work from Southern Cross University, and dual Bachelor of Arts and Laws from the University of Queensland. I completed my EMDR L1 and 2 Training with Graham Taylor in 2021-2022 and went on to learn Recent Traumatic Episode and Group Traumatic Episode EMDR Training with Dr Jenny Dwyer in 2022.

I have over 20 years of experience working in human services, including 10 years specialising in mental health and counselling. I have worked with cutting edge multidisciplinary clinical teams in the areas of youth and families, tertiary education, and domestic violence and sexual assault.

I’m also an artist and devoted yoga practitioner of over 20 years. I hold an Associate of Music Australia in classical piano and played professionally in bands as a singer-songwriter for many years.

I am blessed to live by the beach in Yugambeh Country on the Gold Coast of Australia. I love travelling, surfing, playing music, practising yoga, and disappearing into the rainforest as often as possible.
